Dilution Calculator

To calculate the amount of water and amount of concentrate needed for a dilution, input the brix value of the starting material, followed by the desired dilution brix value.

Always check the single strength brix on a refractometer. The dilution may need adjusted slightly with either juice concentrate or water to reach desired dilution.

Juice Industry Resources

  • Single strength juice brix values are based on the Code of Federal Regulations Title 21, set forth by the FDA. The Code of Federal Regulations does not set a standard for certain juices, including açaí, coconut water, and dragon fruit.

Based on iTi Tropicals’ product speficiations, the following brix values ranges are recommended for dilutions:

    • Acai: 2.0 - 5.0

    • Coconut Water: 4.0 - 5.0*

    • Dragon Fruit: 11..0 - 14.0

    • Passion Fruit: 12.6 - 16.0**

*Based on Codex. As of January 2013, the FDA has not set a standard brix value for coconut water. iTi Tropicals believes that the standard brix value is closer to 4.0.

**While passion fruit juice has a brix standard from the FDA, iTi Tropicals suggests a range in the brix values due to crop fluctuations.

  • Specific gravity and true density are taken into account when calculating weight percentages for dilutions. For more information on sugar solutions, refer to The National Bureau of Standards C457.

  • As per January 2013, the FDA has not set a brix standard for coconut water. Based on Codex General Standard for Fruit Juices and Nectars, the standard brix value is 5.0, however iTi Tropicals believes that the brix value is closer 4.0 for single strength coconut water.
